General Recruitment Information from VP of Recruitment, Nicole Solman:
Although recruitment seems to be a very complicated and daunting process, it can be much simpler than it has been described. Additionally, as stressful as it is, let me reassure you that the process has been in place and successful for many years.
After registration, the potential member will be assigned a Recruitment Counselor, which is a woman currently in a Greek chapter, to guide her through the process. They will have weekly meetings with their Recruitment Counselor, who will tell them everything they need to know. Recruitment Counselors do not "affiliate" with their chapters during the recruitment process so that they may be unbiased sources for potential new members.
The first official event in Formal Recruitment is 19 Party, or “Open House.” This will occur Saturday, December 4th and Sunday, December 5th. All registered women will have the opportunity to visit each of the 19 chapters on campus. They will then rank their favorite 14 chapters at the end of their weekend.
Women will then finish their first semester, and return home for the holidays. In order to continue through the rest of recruitment, women must meet the Panhellenic GPA requirement. The Panhellenic GPA requirement is equivalent to the minimum chapter GPA requirement of one of out 19 chapters. Specific chapters have requirements that are higher than this minimum – they range as high as a 3.0 minimum requirement.
Women will then return to Bloomington when the residence halls open.
The potential member will then have a meeting with her Recruitment Counselor when she arrives back to Bloomington.
The day after the she arrives, she will attend First Invite. This year, First Invite will be on January 6th and 7th. At this event, women will have the opportunity to visit up to 14 chapters.
The day after First Invite is Second Invite, where women have the opportunity to visit up to 8 of the 14 chapters they visited the previous day. Second Invite will be on January 8th.
After Second Invite, women return to up to 3 of the previous days' 8 chapters. This event is called Preference Round. Preference Round will be held on January 9th.
Monday, January 10th is Bid Night! Hopefully, the potential member will receive a bid from one of her top three chapters.
Throughout the process, the chapters and the women going through recruitment are constantly evaluating one another. Recruitment is a process of mutual selection. While the women going through recruitment are ranking the chapters they visit, each chapter is also deciding whom they would like to invite back. At each stage in the process, women and chapters are finding their perfect fits.
